Hexavalent chromium

For a long time now, Duroc has been able to offer alternatives to the usual yellow passivation finish of electrolytic zinc plating. These alternatives involve replacing the toxic hexavalent chromium-based yellow passivation with a passivation based on trivalent chromium reinforced with silicate nanoparticles.

Duplex

Description

The "Duplex" coating consists of an electrolytic zinc coating with Delta Seal as a top layer. The level of corrosion resistance depends on the number of layers of Delta Seal.

Standard colours are silver-grey and black. Other colours are available for specific projects.

Reduced bi-metallic corrosion
Protects against chemicals such as acids, alkalines, cleaners, oils and petrol etc.
Available in 8 different colours (standard silver and black)
GZ variant for lower coefficient of friction

Remark : the above-mentioned values for corrosion resistance apply to the silver-grey colour. Other colours generally give a lower corrosion resistance.

Typical applications

Duplex is the ideal treatment for screws (roof insulation screws) that have to conform to the strict requirements of the EOTA (European Organisation for Technical Approvals). These requirements were formulated in the ETAG 006 standard.

Furthermore, it is a first-class alternative to hot dip galvanised parts. The rubbing down (polishing) of any zinc droplets is now definitely a thing of the past.

Another market is for parts that need a black colour and high corrosion resistance.

Duplex coatings are ideal for parts that are used in an industrial setting, since Delta Seal can withstand an acidic atmosphere.

The use of stainless steel in swimming pools can give rise to corrosion because of the effect of the high chlorine content in the atmosphere. Duplex is a superior alternative, as is stated here in an article from a technical journal (Duplex 700 in swimming pools).
