Corrosion tests
To get an idea of the corrosion resistance and to be able to compare different coatings in terms of corrosion resistance, a number of standardised tests have been developed. The most common test is the so-called salt spray test (in accordance with DIN 50021).
Although the salt spray test is very popular, it often gives a false picture. After all, not all parts are used in a damp, salty environment. For example, industrial air has a totally different composition (acid rain). The Kesternich test was developed in order to simulate this latter environment.
To get a better overall picture of the resistance of a certain coating to corrosion, it is best to take account of both tests.
